ABOUT THE JUROR

Born in 1981 in Hayward, California, and in raised in Provo, Utah, in an insular religious community, Camilla Taylor attended the University of Utah and received a BFA in 2006, and an MFA from California State University at Long Beach in 2011, both degrees with an emphasis in printmaking.

Taylor is recognized for their monochromatic and intensely introspective works on paper and sculpture which utilize figurative and architectural forms. Taylor’s artworks reflect the viewer’s internal lives as well as collective issues we experience as a society. Taylor uses a variety of materials, working in ceramic, metal, printmaking, glass, and fiber as well as found materials, allowing the work to dictate the medium it should be realized in. An accomplished artist exhibiting in traditional gallery spaces, they also create installations in intimate and unusual locations, such as site-specific works in a swimming pool, desert garden, and other locations.

Taylor lives in Los Angeles, CA, with their partner and 3 cats, and teaches printmaking and sculpture at UCLA and Occidental College.

ABOUT THE SLIDING SCALE APPLICATION FEE

As of April 2024, CICADA asks for an application fee for open calls. This decision comes out of the desire to compensate guest jurors for their time and to cover the basic expenses of running the website.

CICADA recognizes that any application fees can be barriers to artists. For this reasons, we offer sliding scale options in an effort to keep things as affordable as possible. Additionally, if the fee is a barrier for your application in any way, please send us an email

Funds collected from application fees are disbursed in the following way: 50% will go to the guest juror to compensate them for their time; the remaining 50% will go towards covering web hosting expenses and the gallery's time.
