WHAT
CICADA seeks submissions of black and white art for our upcoming online exhibition curated by artist Esteban del Valle
Artists will be featured this website and on the CICADA instagram account. There are no theme or content restrictions for this call. The only requirement is that the work is in black and white. See below for submission details.
ABOUT THE CURATOR
Esteban del Valle is a Brooklyn, NY based interdisciplinary artist originally from Chicago, IL. He received his M.F.A. from RISD and has exhibited his work and produced murals internationally. His work has been featured in various publications, including Hi-Fructose, Boston Globe, and Washington Post. Del Valle has been the recipient of several visual arts residencies and fellowships including Skowhegan, the Fine Arts Work Center, Smack Mellon, and The Daniel F. Breeden Eminent Scholar Chair at Auburn University. Del Valle also has original work in several permanent collections including the Urban Nation in Berlin, Germany, The Zimmerli Art Museum in New Brunswick, NJ, and the Provincetown Art Association and Museum in Provincetown, MA. In 2021, he received the inaugural commission from the Provincetown Public Art Foundation, and in 2024, he served as Artist in Residence at the University of Tennessee School of Art in Knoxville.
WHO
Anyone making achromatic (black and white) art in any medium. Any color outside of the white-black spectrum is not eligible. If you have any questions about your work, please send us an email.
Please review our instagram feed to see if your work fits: CICADA focuses on work that is mysterious, moody, and a little bit Romantic but these are not strict parameters.
HOW
As attachments, please send 3 high-res jpgs to annika (at) annikaearley.com with subject line CICADA SUMMER 2026.
Please label each image as lastname_title.jpg
if you work in video, please share your work via youtube links.
In the email body, please include
a short (300 or less) bio
your website and/or instagram handle
work info for each image (title, date, medium, dimensions, price)
2. Pay the sliding scale application fee via Venmo by sending $5-$15 to @Annika-Earley and add CICADA Summer 26 in the memo. If this fee is a barrier for you to apply for any reason, please send us an email. No explanation needed!
Please submit all images as attached files in ONE email. Please do not submit files via DropBox, Google Drive, or as a combined PDF. If the resolution for your images are too low, we will contact you to get updated files.
WHEN
Submissions are accepted until Sunday, May 3rd at 11:59pm EST.
The show will open online in early June.
